Thyroid Disorder

The thyroid hormone is a critical component of the body's metabolism; it is one of the largest glands of the endocrine system and is positioned anterior to the trachea and below the larynx. An overactive (hyperthyroidism) or underactive (hypothyroidism) thyroid can have a debilitating effect on the ability of the body to function properly.

Thyroid disorders afflict 200 million people worldwide and many may not realize that they are affected. In Canada, it is estimated that one in twenty people has some form of thyroid disease. Profiling the status of the thyroid gland is critical for diagnosing a thyroid disorder and determining the appropriate treatment.
